About the programme
The Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Level 5 is an 18 month programme for experienced teaching assistants who want to lead targeted interventions and raise outcomes. Learners choose a specialist pathway in SEND, Social and Emotional Wellbeing or Curriculum Provision.
The programme teaches learners how to plan, deliver and evaluate interventions with clear outcomes, use simple assessment to spot gaps and plan next steps, support independence, positive routines and calm classrooms, and collaborate practically with teachers, families and specialists.
The apprenticeship builds a strong platform for roles such as Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), inclusion and specialist responsibilities, or progression to a Level 6 Teacher Apprenticeship and Qualified Teacher Status. You’ll have one to one tutor coaching and progress tracking throughout.

- Experienced teaching assistants ready to take on specialist responsibility and mentor others
- Schools building in house expertise in SEND, wellbeing or curriculum provision
- Teaching assistants supporting autistic learners and learners with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia or speech and language needs, and pupils who need calm routines and wellbeing support
